In Sınav (The Exam), Ömer Faruk Sorak, the director of box office hits such as Vizontele and G.O.R.A., strikingly portrays the frustrations of 30 million high school students—half the population of Turkey—through the story of five college candidates who suffer under the pressures of the forthcoming university entrance exam. In the beginning, high school friends Mert, Sinan, Gamze, Kaan and Uluç try the legal way of getting things done: they study. But no matter how hard they try, they cannot please their parents. Desperate to get a passing grade, the friends pool their resources together and enlist the services of a professional thief/assassin for hire to steal the test papers. Likening the rush for the university entrance to a horse race where only the best fed and best trained can win, The Exam provides a critical look at the flawed education system of Turkey and the hopes and fears of the younger generation.
